Sun Noodle Recalls Sura Tanmen Kits Over Undeclared Fish Allergen
A Hawaii-only recall affects one lot of Sura Tanmen Hot and Sour Flavor noodles after a soup base containing fish was packed into kits without a fish declaration.
Sun Noodle is voluntarily recalling 134 packages of its Sura Tanmen Hot and Sour Flavor Premium Japanese Noodles & Soup Base because the kit may contain an undeclared fish allergen. The FDA-hosted recall notice says the affected product was distributed exclusively in Hawaii through selected retailers and food distributors.
The recall concerns people with a fish allergy or severe fish sensitivity, who may face a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the affected kit. Sun Noodle says no illnesses or allergic reactions had been reported when the notice was issued. The product should nevertheless be removed from use immediately if its identifying details match the recall.
How to identify the recalled noodles
Check the full package rather than relying only on the brand name or flavor. The affected product is Sura Tanmen Hot and Sour Flavor Premium Japanese Noodles & Soup Base in a 15.4-ounce package. The recalled unit has lot code 1226183 and UPC 085315054108. The corresponding case UPC is 085315054105.
The affected packages were distributed between July 9 and July 29, 2026, through a limited list of Hawaii locations, including Don Don Donki Kapolei, Don Quijote stores in Kaheka and Pearl City, H-Mart Kakaako, Marukai Hawaii Kam Shopping Center, Nijiya Market Ala Moana, Nijiya Market University Avenue, Times Super Market Kahala and other named distributors and retailers in the notice.
If the lot code does not match 1226183, the FDA notice does not identify that package as part of this recall. Consumers should still use the product label and the official notice as the reference point, especially if a package has been separated from its original case.
Why the soup base caused the recall
According to Sun Noodle, a consumer inquiry found that the soup base inside some Sura Tanmen kits did not match the expected product. The company's investigation confirmed that a soba sauce containing fish had been packed into the kits by mistake. Fish was not declared as an allergen on the Sura Tanmen packaging.
That means the issue is not simply a labeling detail that can be solved by setting aside a visible garnish. The recalled product is the complete noodle-and-soup-base kit identified by the affected lot. The manufacturer's product page shows the product format and cooking instructions, but consumers with a fish allergy should not try to prepare the recalled kit and remove the soup base.
